Frequently asked questions

What is Digital Atlas?

Digital Atlas is a real-world data service for AI agents and analysts. It covers every census tract in the United States, 10.36 million cleaned places, jobs and mobility metrics, and serves them as read-only tools that you call over MCP or HTTP.

What data does Digital Atlas include?

It includes 84,415 census tracts, every one in the US, 10.36 million cleaned and categorised places, 314 defined business categories and 1,288 documented mobility metrics. Sources include the US Census American Community Survey, LODES employment data and TIGER/Line boundaries.

How do I connect an AI agent such as Claude Code or Codex?

Add the Digital Atlas MCP server with one command, then approve the sign-in in your browser. Your agent gets the atlas tools under your account, read-only. Any client that speaks the Model Context Protocol connects the same way.

Can I use Digital Atlas from my own code without an agent?

Yes. Create an API key in your account and send it as a bearer token over HTTP. You can name a key for each project and revoke any key in one click.

How does pricing work?

You pay in credits. One credit is one standard tool call, heavier analyses cost a few, and failed calls are refunded. Pro costs $49 a month for 10,000 credits, and extra credits cost $6 per 1,000.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. The trial gives you 100 credits for 30 days with access to every read-only atlas tool. No card is needed.

Do answers say where the data came from?

Yes. Every answer carries the source dataset and release it came from, so you can check it and cite it.

Do I need to download or host the data?

No. The atlas stays on Digital Atlas servers. Your agent or code asks questions and gets answers back, so there is no data export to manage.
